About one of those rare, ultra-vivid dreams. Three years after my father's death, I dreamt of meeting my father in my childhood kitchen, and he was dressed head-to-toe in a three piece yellow suit, and glowing. We didn't talk, but we laughed together, and all the tough, childhood hurts melted. A song of forgiveness written in the old child ballad format.
lyrics
1.I met my father all dressed in yellow
Take heed take warning, daughter
And the light was soft and strange around him
There are many things to know.
2.Hello father, how can you be here?
Take heed take warning, daughter
You have been gone for these 3 years
There are many things to know.
3.And such sweetness in your smile
Take heed take warning, daughter
Do you bring good news from the dead?
There are many things to know
4.Oh father oh father, I could not trust you
I had no warning, father
You anger closed the door of my young heart
There are many things to know
5.But as I dream you in sunny yellow
Take heed take warning, daughter
I know my heart can open wider
There are many things to know
I look across at my young father, unsure of what to do or say
My fear tells me I must ignore him. My loves & labors take me away.
But as I close my cloak of labor, I catch his eye once more in case
And there is laughter coming through me. And there is laughter on his face.
6.Oh he looked up, yes, he laughed with me
I need no warning, father
And in that laughter, sweet forgiveness

Baaba Maal's voice is extraordinary, pleading, sweet and fierce. I'm lucky I had the honor of meeting him at a festival, and got to tell him how much this beautiful album meant to me. Moira Smiley

The instrumentation and songwriting in this album is really top-tier. Aofie is one of my favorite folk/alt-country artists and she performs wonderfully, bringing her unique tone of voice to this project. This album was my first step into Aofie's artistry, and is firmly one of my favorite albums. rileyridgway

Powerful collection rooted in the stories that must be re-told. Played by some of the most generous community music people I’ve met during my foray into Old Time music.
This CD is a keeper! Ellen B. (Elly) Marshall
